bw Successful Europe Senior Tourism presentations in Bratislava and Prague

10.02.2012. Two press conferences in Bratislava and Prague on 8 and 9 February respectively have served to promote the third edition of the Europe Senior Tourism programme in these countries, which started in October 2011 and ends in April this year. About 30 journalists attended the presentations given by the head of the Spanish Tourism Office in Vienna, Javier Rodríguez Mañas; the head of R&D&I at Segittur, Carlos Romero; a representative from the Andalusian tourism board; and a representative from Euroseniors, the company that manages the trips.

The Spanish ambassadors to these countries were also present – José Ángel López Jorriz in Bratislava and Pascual Ignacio Navarro Ríos in Prague. Both of them mentioned that the programme was helping to reinforce the concept of European citizenship, as well as to establish interesting business and cooperation connections between Spain and the seniors’ countries of origin.

Thanks to the programme, a total of 98,653 tourists from 16 countries have travelled to Spain these last two years. Nearly 1,500 came from Slovakia and 7,000 from the Czech Republic.

In the third edition, Czech seniors will be able to visit some of the best tourist destinations in Spain: Malaga (Andalusia), Majorca (Balearic Islands) and Benidorm (Region of Valencia). Ibiza (Balearic Islands) is also on the list of destinations available to Slovakian tourists.

Euroseniors is the Spanish agency that manages the trips; however, the travel agencies that market Europe Senior Tourism in the Czech Republic are Quality Tours and Delfin Travel. PegasTour, PegasTravel and VVip Travel market the programme in Slovakia. Tourists who wish to benefit from the subsidised price and the interesting conditions of the Europe Senior Tourism programme must go to these agencies exclusively.

The Europe Senior Tourism programme is a pioneering project in the world, aimed at organising partially subsidised trips for EU residents over 55, to travel to Spain in the medium and low season. The goals of the programme are to stimulate the economic activity outside the summer season, improve active employment policies, build the concept of European citizenship and contribute to active ageing.
