Madrid. July 3, 2009

Today, the president of SEGITTUR, Javier Bustamante, signed the contract with VIAJES ZOETROPE whereby it is awarded the contract for the services necessary for the organization, commercialization, execution and management of the holiday periods within the Europe Senior Tourism pilot project for the season of October 2009/April 2010.

VIAJES ZOETROPE earned the highest technical score in accordance with the evaluation criteria used to judge the tender bids. In this sense, once the required documentation was submitted, the agency became the final tender assignee.

Zoetrope’s bid includes holding the program at 32 hotels, all of which have a category of 4 stars, 16 in each of the participating autonomous regions –the Balearic Islands and Andalusia– and in different municipalities. At the same time, it includes more than 10,000 points of sales in 14 countries of the European Union: Holland, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Denmark, France, the Czech Republic, Romania and Bulgaria.

In a few weeks, the final programming will be presented for beginning commercialization in the countries of origin of the people who will fill the 80,000 spaces available.

The goal of the project is to maintain the activity of tourism and create jobs through active policies, by taking action against the seasonal nature of tourism. It must be reminded that what is proposed by the State Secretariat of Tourism, along with the Autonomous Regions of the Balearic Islands and Andalusia, is a pilot experience for the winter season of 2009-2010. It is an attempt to create a start-up engine to be expanded upon in future years, if the result is positive, by increasing the number of spaces available in other autonomous regions, as well as promoting the creation of parallel demand outside of the program with a positive repercussion on the industry as a whole.
