SEGITTUR has chosen to use the social networks as the most personal and innovative way to bring the Europe Senior Tourism project to the attention of potential customers. The campaign is therefore focused on Facebook and Twitter, and the aim is to attract European tourists over the age of 55 to Spain during the 2009-2010 winter season.

The State Secretary for Tourism presents the Europe Senior Tourism programme in Poland. Poland is the third country in number of travel reservations through the Europe Senior Tourism programme, after Greece and Italy. One of the priorities of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce for the Spanish Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2010 is to include the sector's point of view in EU policies affecting tourism, and particularly to promote Europe Senior Tourism.

SEGITTUR is organising the 5th BITS (Bureau International du Tourisme Social) European Forum for Social Tourism, in conjunction with the Regional Government of Andalusia, and on this occasion with the participation of the EC with the launch of the preparatory action known as CALYPSO.

The Forum will take place on 15, 16 and 17 October in Malaga. The central theme for this event is: “Social Tourism and the crisis: impact and opportunity”.

The Europe Senior Tourism pilot programme was launched on 1 October with the arrival of the first tourists at the participating destinations, Andalusia and the Balearic Islands. These first reservations reveal that tourists are coming to Spain from markets which are new for Spain in winter, such as Greece, Romania and Poland.

Today, the president of SEGITTUR, Javier Bustamante, signed the contract with VIAJES ZOETROPE whereby it is awarded the contract for the services necessary for the organization, commercialization, execution and management of the holiday periods within the Europe Senior Tourism pilot project for the season of October 2009/April 2010.
