The fourth season of Europe Senior Tourism gets underway
19/09/2012. The Europe Senior Tourism programme launches its fourth season next 1 October with 24,200 places available for seniors of 55 and older resident in Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania who wish to enjoy a full holiday package to Spain subsidised by the Spanish state.
New developments this 2012/2013 season, which will conclude on 30 April of the coming year, include the addition of new destinations for seniors to choose from, namely: Costa del Sol and Costa Tropical in Andalusia, Calviá and Playa de Palma in Majorca, Minorca and Santa Eulàlia des Riu in Ibiza, as well as Benidorm, Gandia and Peñíscola in the Region of Valencia, Santa Susanna and Lloret de Mar in Catalonia and La Manga and Mar Menor in Murcia.
Europe Senior Tourism is a pioneering project worldwide organising partially subsidised trips to Spain for European citizens over 55 during the mid and low season. The aims are to reinvigorate the economy outside the summer season, and to improve active employment policies, while contributing to active ageing and furthering the concept of European Citizenship.
In the three first editions nearly 120,000 seniors from 16 different nationalities have been able to enjoy a holiday in destinations in Spain with Europe Senior Tourism.
Any citizen over 55 is eligible for the programme and can travel with a companion –even if this person is under 55–, who will enjoy the same conditions.
The Europe Senior Tourism programme is also included within the scope of the Calypso Preparatory Action developed by the European Commission with the aim of encouraging tourism for everyone between European Union Member States.
